The relationship between dietary copper deficiency and collagen content in mouse hearts has been studied. Analysis by SDS-PAGE, followed by staining with Coomassie brilliant blue, showed that detection of additional metabolic signatures of altered collagen predicts copper deficiency; since hepatic fibrosis reduces protein content, it can also be determined by measuring the content of collagen in the liver to predict liver fibrosis. The aqueous extract (AFE) of Anoectochilusformosanus can reduce CCl4-induced liver fibrosis and reduce the content of liver collagen. Collagen is also the main component of the sclera, and it is also very important for the eyes. If the synthesis of collagen in the sclera decreases and the degradation increases, it will lead to myopia.
