Some tips to prevent lotion pump leakage

111

Lotion pumps are widely used in the packaging of shampoos, lotions, creams, hand sanitizers, and various cosmetics, covering the global daily chemical and personal care industries. However, many buyers face pump leaks during long-distance sea transport and high-temperature storage. Leaks contaminate outer packaging, waste finished liquid, and cause unnecessary economic losses. Here are some common causes of leaks and corresponding preventive measures.

1. Strict Size Matching Before Mass Production

If the lotion pump neck outer diameter, pitch, and bottle neck specifications do not perfectly match, gaps will exist between the pump and the bottle. Under temperature fluctuations and transportation vibrations, liquid can easily leak out.

Therefore, bottle samples need to be checked one by one before bulk orders to ensure a perfect fit between the lotion pump and the bottle neck, with zero gaps.

2. Standard Complete Sealing Structure

The silicone gasket is the core sealing component inside the pump. Once the gasket is broken, deformed, or missing during assembly, the internal sealing system will fail directly, leading to continuous leakage.

Therefore, all lotion pumps must be equipped with qualified silicone gaskets, straws, and inner plugs, and undergo thorough inspection to avoid missing parts.

3. Control the filling height appropriately

Most liquid cosmetics expand when heated. If the bottle is filled completely without leaving space, the expanding liquid will overflow from the pump's gaps under high temperatures.

We recommend customers leave 5%~10% space inside the bottle, especially for goods requiring long-distance sea transport.

4. Keep the lotion pump locked upwards during transport

Keeping the lotion pump locked upright maintains a tight internal seal. Accidental pressing before packaging can change the position of the internal spring, compromising the airtightness.

Ensure workers maintain the pump's original locked position during packaging, avoiding downward pressing.

5. Add an extra protective cap

Squeezing and impacts during long-distance transport can deform the lotion pump body and damage the rubber rings, causing slow, hidden leaks.

Therefore, an extra plastic cap can cover the top of the lotion pump to prevent damage from accidental pressing and squeezing.

6. Shock-absorbing Packaging

High humidity and significant temperature fluctuations during sea transport can easily cause liquids to expand and leak at weak points in the seal.

Products can be packaged using bubble wrap and cardboard dividers to reduce impact and deformation.
